What you Get on Race Morning

Course Details - Swim

Special Note on Swim Start:

Heat Starts according to Age Group. To be determined

The long course group start is at 6:50 AM.   You will go out and around the buoys, keeping them on your left at all times until you see the short course buoys lined up, go past them and turn left and then straight in to the finish. Run up beach and ramp and enter transition from the southwest corner.

The short course group start is at approximately 7:35 AM. Swim is straight out and back along buoys directly in front of transition area. Swim is an out and back along buoys, always on your left. Run up beach and ramp and enter transition from the southwest corner.

Course Details - Bike

Helmets are mandatory! No one will be allowed on bike course without a helmet.

We will be exiting the transition area on our bikes from the northeast corner of transition and head north along Boardwalk. Please stay to the right and proceed with caution. At the end of the boardwalk the pavement is rough, take that turn very slowly. It will also most likely be fairly crowded at this point. Left turn there, along the fence at 7 Presidents then make first right. Do NOT go straight out onto Ocean Blvd. Also, be cautious of people entering Seven Presidents Park.

Remember - ROADS ARE NOT CLOSED TO TRAFFIC! Be cautious at all intersections, we have thirty one police officers and more than 40 volunteers on the course. They are there to assist in safety, you are still responsible to watch for crazy drivers (as usual). People can cross the course and cut you off at any race, not just this one. Be safe!!!

VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE:

Long Course (2 loops) Bike:  You will ride two loops of the course.  Towards the end of the first loop you will ride straight north on Ocean Boulevard to Seaview  (The Peddler Bike Shop is on the right) where you will make a right turn and then a quick left turn onto Ocean Avenue to begin your second loop.   DO NOT TURN BACK TOWARD TRANSITION ON YOUR FIRST LOOP.   You need to continue and complete your second loop of the bike before following "FINISH" signs.

Short Course (1 loop) Bike:  You will ride only one loop of the course and turn right onto Seaview from Ocean Boulevard as above, but then continue straight to the ocean, turn right and then dismount or enter area from the southeast corner of transition as directed by volunteers.

It is always the responsibility as an athlete to be familiar with the course.

Course Details - Run

2 Mile Run (First Duathlon Run):  Start at Duathlon Start sign on boardwalk between swim exit and finish line. Run one mile south to water table at South Bath Avenue, turn around and then back to transition area, entering back into transition at the southwest corner.

3 Mile Run:  Athletes will run left out of transition area, then turn right towards the south end of the boardwalk on the paved path following signs and volunteer direction. Water stop at mile 1 (mile 2 on return) is NOT the turn around.   Continue on following signs and volunteer direction to turn around at very south end of boardwalk, past bathrooms and snack bar.  Please stay to the right.

5 Mile Run:  Athletes will run left out of transition area, then turn left again towards the north end of the boardwalk on the paved path following signs and volunteer direction. Water stop at 1/2 mile mark on the way out  (1-1/2 mile on the return) is NOT the turn around. At end of boardwalk turn left onto Seaview Avenue and then right onto Ocean Avenue following along the outside fence of 7 Presidents Park.  Continue on following signs and volunteer direction to turn around as directed at Avenel, and follow course back towards transition area. Continue straight south, pass water table at mile 3 (mile 4 on return).  This is NOT the turn around. Continue on following signs and volunteer direction to turn around at very south end of boardwalk, past bathrooms and snack bar.  Please stay to the right.

Both 3 and 5 mile runners: South End turn around point is the same for both distances, at very south end of the boardwalk, past the snack bar and bathrooms.  Please run right of building on the way out and left of the building on the way back.  It is a little tight but the snack bar will be open so please do not run in front of the snack bar on the boardwalk.

Please follow signs and cones delineated to channel athletes and keep spectators of course. Please be courteous to all spectator and walkers, they also belong there and are enjoying the weather and some exercise just as you are. Share the boardwalk.
